Improvement Works at Waterstown Park Palmerstown – Curran
A number of improvement works are being carried out at Waterstown Park in Palmerstown, according to Minister and local Fianna Fáil T.D. John Curran.
Welcoming this announcement Minister Curran said: “South Dublin County Council has confirmed to me that a number of small scale projects are planned for Waterstown Park in Palmerstown in order to provide seating areas in the park and further safety and security measures.
“A number of people in Palmerstown had contacted my office requesting that South Dublin County Council provide benches in the park. After contacting the Council they have now confirmed that design options are currently being considered and it is intended to provide one or two benches initially on a trial basis in the park. Due to the isolated nature of the park it will be necessary to provide benches that are robust enough and capable of surviving the abuse that they are subjected to late at night.
“In addition to new park benches, the council has confirmed to me that consideration will be given to include an additional camera south of Riversdale Estate. There are four CCTV cameras covering the park at present. These were provided in partnership with Stewarts Hospital. The capital cost of extending the current system to include an additional camera south of Riversdale Estate would be considerable and while there is no current provision in the 2010 adopted estimates for this work, consideration will be given to including it in the 2011 estimates.
“In order to provide further safety to pedestrians in the park a new kissing gate will be installed at the Riversdale Estate entrance to Waterstown Park during May.
“The council has confirmed that the area will be monitored over the next few months and additional boundary protection will be considered where necessary. I am calling on residents in Palmerstown to report any anti-social behavior that is happening in the park to the Parks Department of South Dublin County Council and An Garda Síochána,” concluded John Curran.
