Press Release                                                                                                8th February 2010

Minister Curran Welcomes Investment of €41,945,800 in South Dublin County’s Road Infrastructure

The National Roads Authority has allocated €41,945,800 in their allocation of National Road Grants for 2010 to South Dublin County Council, according to Minister of State and local Fianna Fáil T.D. for Dublin Mid West, John Curran.

Speaking about the almost €42 million investment for national roads in South Dublin County Council, Minister Curran, said: ''The significant expansion and development of the roads networks has benefited not just everyone in the county, but with so many major routes interlocking through our county it has benefited everyone in the State. It has been a major factor in underpinning the sustained programme of national economic recovery.

From local pavement surfacing works to major projects such as the M50 upgrade scheme, this investment in our roads will go along way to improving our county, employing people in the construction industry and preparing our county for economic recovery.

It is a proud fact that roads building projects are now efficient, on budget, on time and often ahead of their completion dates. The motorways have also helped reduce the catastrophic carnage on the roads, an aim which the Government must pursue relentlessly.

Today's investment builds on the massive roads investment by this Government over a decade and more.'

Already, substantial progress on many of these projects and programmes has been achieved and is currently under way. For more details and for information on the full range of projects funded by Transport 21, please visit the website at www.transport21.ie.
