Press Release 5 November 2009 EMBARGO: 5/11/09 Minister Curran approves funding of 170,000 for capital projects across seven Local Drugs Task Force areas in the Dublin area John Curran T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, with responsibility for the National Drugs Strategy, today approved approximately 170,000 for 34 small scale capital projects across seven Local Drugs Task Forces in the Dublin area. Earlier this year, Minister Curran announced that total funding of 600,000 was available - 25,000 for each of the 14 Local and each of the 10 Regional Drugs Task Force areas. The funding aims to meet identified emerging once off capital needs in the Drugs Task Force areas to cater for drug specific projects and covers small refurbishment works and/or the purchase of equipment. The projects proposed by the task forces and approved by Minister Curran are detailed below. Minister Curran said today: It has been the experience of some community-based drug projects that poorly equipped premises can impede the vital work being carried out. The Government views community based projects as central to tackling the problem of drugs misuse and I am delighted to approve this funding today for the purchase of equipment and upgrading of premises. I know that funding however large or small - can have a significant and beneficial impact.
